University Bourgogne – Franche-Comté

University Bourgogne Franche-Comté (UBFC) is a Community of Universities and Institutions (COMUE) of about 60,000 students, located in the center-east of France and covering 22 sites. It was created on April 1, 2015 by a Decree published in the Official Journal on March 11, 2015.

The University of Franche-Comté (UFC) is a multi-disciplinary university established in 5 cities: Besançon, Belfort, Montbéliard, Vesoul and Lons-le-Saunier.

All levels of European diplomas are taught here: university diplomas in technology (DUT), bachelor’s degrees, professional licenses, masters, PhDs, engineering degrees.

The disciplines taught cover all the major fields: fundamental and applied sciences, health, technology, literature, languages, language sciences, humanities and social sciences, sports sciences, law, economics, management.

Higher Institute of Engineers of Franche-Comté (ISIFC)

The Higher Institute of Engineers of Franche-Comté is specialized in Medical Devices. This original training program trains executives specializing in medical devices, all of whom share a rare triple culture: technical, regulatory and medical.

Center for Applied Linguistics (CLA)

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CLA) in Besançon is the first French language learning center in the world. It is part of the University Franche-Comté.

Each year, the CLA hosts more than 4,000 students from around the world and is known for its teaching of French as a foreign language. The Center offers various language courses, mainly French, but also German, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Arabic, Russian and Chinese. Its teaching is based on research in applied linguistics.

The CLA is renowned for the professional training of teachers of French as a foreign language (FLE).

In addition to its 32 classrooms, the CLA has a media library, a reception and performance room, three multimedia laboratories, a cafeteria and an accommodation service for students. It offers or suggests a large number of cultural and leisure activities in Besançon and in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.

Higher Institute of Fine Arts (ISBA)

The Higher Institute of Fine Arts of Besançon (ISBA) is a French institution of higher artistic education (specializing in Art and Visual Communication, among others) hosting every year between 200 and 300 students from all over France.

The school has many artists’ studios, including ceramics, ironwork, woodwork, photography, video, computer science, digital printing, engraving and laser engraving, silkscreen printing, typography, etc.

The Institute offers two national degrees in arts: the National Diploma in arts (DNA, bachelor’s degree) and the Higher National Diploma in Plastic Arts (DNSEP, master’s degree, with the possibility to pursue a PhD at the university) and also offers evening classes and extracurricular courses in various disciplines.

European Institute of Management and Business (IMEA)

Affiliated to the Chamber of Commerce, the institute provides specialized training: trade and distribution, management secretarial, commercial, international, marketing/management.

Every year, more than 300 students, interns and apprentices come to the IMEA for training.

The ECM offers students, work-study students and employees diploma courses from High School Diploma to Master’s Degree, Advanced Vocational Training Certificate, Bachelor’s Degree, Certificates).

Located in the Lafayette business park in Besançon, it offers work-study programs in the French National Education system that are accessible after the High School Diploma.

ECM is specialized in 4 sectors: Marketing/communication, Trade/sales, Management/finance, Human Resources.
